  • May - Students from Milwaukee Area to attend two different agencies in one day to see what options may be for them for programming.
  • Training to be held in fall for parents.  They would like it to include all different areas of programming.  If your agency is interested in being involved, contact Hope Lloyd.

Transit Committee - Cheri Bruch (not present)

  • No report however meeting attendees concerned because transportation is such a huge issue in Milwaukee County and there continues to be problems with services for clients.  Lori from Health Span offered to help out with getting committee back started.  They will meet at 8:30am on May 10th at UCP.
  • Led to discussion of visiting health care services, the pros and cons.  Pro being that client will not face chance of getting denied service due to being late for appointment due to transportation.  Con being that it would limit the client community contact.

Health Disparities -Martha DeGraw (not present)

  • New website can be accessed through the Southern Wisconsin Center website, http://dhfs.wisconsin.gov/dd_swc/
  • Health Log - After MADDSA meeting open to discussion.  Any agencies interested in using tool should contact Martha McGraw or Bob Eisenbart.
  • Still looking for stories of positive or negative interactions with health care providers to post on the website to assist other providers
  • Behavior, Crisis and Psychological issues group still meeting at the medical college.  They are discussing:

-          looking at issues of crisis for providers

-          putting together a list of psychiatrist that take DD clients and T19. They will try to keep updated.  It is not available yet.

-          Putting together a survey of concerns with psych issues

-          Maureen Conaty and Justin Kuehl of Milwaukee Psych working on documented process of how to handle crisis situations for clients that are DD.

  • Dental Work Group - Dr. Hodge at Marquette to publish article in the journal regarding the results of the state wide survey.  Part of the issue is that there are just not enough dentists, period and the situation is not getting better.  Therefore, we as providers need to focus on prevention more then ever with clients.  Found that there are a handful of dentists that serve DD clients but would like more acts of appreciation due to the fact that they at times loose money when serving our clients.  Marquette and Oral Hygiene Professionals Group considering giving awards to such dentists.  The group is allowed to have a session at a dental conference in May 2008 to get the word out.

WCTC is hosting an oral health clinic in fall for exams, cleanings, x-rays, and sealants.  Milwaukee County gets six slots.  Provider would have to transport clients there.  Contact Martha DeGraw at SEWI Training Center, if interested.

  • Ethics Group - meet every other month at ARC.  There are representatives from both Marquette and the Medical College
  • Transitions Group - No new news
  • Transportation Group - Brought up possibility of joining with the Transit Committee.
  • An all group meeting will be in June.  Visit web site through the MADDSA.org site.

PCW Report - Lois Degner (not present)

  • Nothing reported.

After meeting the Health Log was discussed with providers a draft copy was provided.  Any agency interested in piloting the log should contact Bob Eisenbart, Martha DeGraw, or Dan Drury.
